Before the time change, we had our system in place. If Kathryn woke up before three am, we would let Isaac sleep. If she woke up after three am, we would wake Isaac up. Since the time change, we haven’t quite figured out a new system…so if she wakes up at two am (which was three am old time), we go ahead and wake Isaac up for some topping off. You should hear our middle of the night discussions on whether to wake him up or not. 2:45 is not the best time to discuss what we should do.
Jonathan (once Kathryn is feeding): Should I wake him up?
Jessica: I’ll leave that decision up to you.
Jonathan: I don’t want to make that decision. What do you think?
Jessica: Well, what if he wakes up in an hour and wants to eat?
Jonathan sighs, disappears into our bedroom and returns with a very sleepy Isaac.
So we have decided to wake Isaac until this weekend, where we will test his stretching power without having to worry about Jonathan going to work the next day.
We really can't complain though...they are getting more efficient at feeding so we are not up as long as we used to be for night feedings. At one time it would take us a good hour to an hour and a half to complete a night feeding. Now we are back in bed within 45 minutes. (I LOVE tandem feeding and promise to post about breastfeeding them both at the same time in the near future for those of you that are curious about that.) They stretched another five-plus hours before waking for their first morning feeding so overall last night wasn't bad at all!
Here are some pics from the professional shots we had when they were four weeks old…my how they have changed!
