More Toddler Speak

Kathryn (as we are driving by a baseball field):  Look, Daddy!  Football!
Daddy: Aren't they playing baseball, Kathryn?
Kathryn (very matter-of-fact): No, Daddy.  Football.

Scene opens to a family shopping in a local craft store with 2 1/2 year old boy-girl toddlers.  The father is tasked with watching the children, while the mother is selecting her purchases.  The toddler boy runs down an aisle only to encounter a female employee, with her back to the toddler, stocking shelves.

Isaac (frantically):  Daddy!  Daddy!  Old lady!  OLD LADY!!
Daddy (calmly):  Yes, Isaac, a lady.
Isaac:  No, Daddy!  OLD LADY!!

Scene opens to a mother working at the dining room table while her two children are playing with a rather large exercise ball on the back deck.  While working, the mother is watching her children run back and forth on the deck, pushing this large ball and laughing.  The mother has easy access to the deck, as the door leading to the deck is wide open and the dining room also has a set of French doors that lead onto the same deck.  Children disappear to the far side of the deck for a moment, then come running back...

Isaac and Kathryn (very excitedly, extremely loud, not in unison):  Mommy!  Mommy!  Big ball down stairs, BIG BALL DOWN STAIRS!  BIG BALL...DOWN STAIRS!
Mommy:  Did the big ball go down the stairs?
Isaac and Kathryn (in unison):  Yes, Mommy.
Mommy (as she and the children walk over to the far side of the deck):  OK.  I'll go help big ball back on the deck.  You stay up here.
Isaac (as we approach that side of the deck):  See, Mommy?  Big ball?
Mommy:  Yes, Isaac.  I see.  I will bring big ball back up on the deck, OK?

The mother walks down the stairs into the woods to retrieve the large exercise ball while the children watch in silence.  Mother and ball return to upper deck.  Mother places ball onto deck.

Kathryn:  Thank you, Mommy.
Isaac:  Yes, Mommy.  Thank you.

Children began playing and laughing with large ball again.  Mother proceeds to block off both sets of stairs to avoid another potential "big ball" escape.
